Tracey and her Dad, Maurice, took the morning to fire up the forge. Its a marvellous thing to watch. As the old saying goes, "By hammer and hand, all art still stands."
How much of what we do today will be remembered tomorrow, or a century from now? I know that our career in graphic design, at some point in the future will fade away, not remembered to another generation. Will someone recall an ad or brochure many years from now? Most likely not. But we marvel at the ancient craftsmanship of generations past done in wrought iron gates, spindles or old church keys.
As I stand and watch a craftsman work the steel in the flames as men have done for millenniums, I watch with pride at a trade that is time tested, offering to our society the same benefits, quality and artistic beauty that have been sought after by so many.
